The Week In Review #322

October 18, 2020 Misc. 15

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

I think my warm weather is finally gone! *cries* It was nice up till Wednesday then went from 85 to 66 the next day! Now it looks like the forecast has just mostly in the 60’s the rest of the month with chilly lows (which is the part I hate the most). I am bummed. Now the countdown till more daylight and warmer weather begins. 🙂

I watched A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting and it was cute, they did change things but for the most party it was kind of like the book. They changed the MC from a white redhead with curly hair who was I believe in Jr. High, to a black girl in High School. Her best friend in the book is a girl and in the movie was a boy that was strange…lol. I like the guy they picked for Victor! And I would never have guess the guy playing the creepy bad guy was the guy who played Draco on HP…lol. It kind of leaves it open for another movie so I hope so! I would love to see a movie about the Spider Queen!

Have a great week and happy reading!

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

Nothing!

Books read last week

  • Sing Like No One’s Listening – Finally got this one finished. It was okay, had it’s good parts and irritating parts but it wa a YA contemporary and that seems to be the way they are for me…lol. About a girl who gets into a music/dance academy but can’t sing (it’s a psychological thing because of the death of her mother  and stress).
  • The Nesting – A gothic horror, slow burn and atmospheric and so yet wasn’t a huge fan. Slow being one of the problems…lol. The other was I didn’t really like the MC and felt there wasn’t really a whole lot happening but I wanted to see how it ended anyway…lol.
  • Rise of Zombert – A decent kids book with a bit of morbid illustrations I wasn’t real keen on…lol. (The cat had a dead squirrel in his mouth! I so didn’t need to see that!) It’s about a mangy looking cat with yellow eyes who likes to eat the heads of small animals so the MC’s friend thinks he is a zombie…lol. It freaking left me with a cliffhanger too! Kids books shouldn’t do that! I really thought my eARC was messed up but seen others talk about it on goodreads so I figured that was just how it ended.
  • Premeditated Myrtle – This was a cute middle grade mystery about a young girl who thinks her neighbor was murdered and sets out to prove it. 8 hrs and 12 minutes listened at 1.5x.
  • Mission to Monster Island – Such a fun middle grade series! I do hope they continue to make movies from these books! 6 hrs and 15 minutes at 1.75x

Currently reading

  • These Violent Delights – This will be on my post for a bit, unless it picks up! Part of it is interesting the other part very slow moving. I am about 200 pages out of 435 and only really read it a bit at night before bed.
  • The Creak on the Stairs – Slow going right now but I hope it picks up as it’s a tour book and I need to get it read but right now I really don’t want too! It’s an Icelandic crime novel and was really hoping to like it!
  • Wolf Hunt – Just started this one so only like 4% into it but already more interesting that the above two!
  • The Devil and the Dark Water – It’s very confusing. 🙁 Lots of characters and I will admit it’s the first time in a while I have had a harder time following the audiobook. It’s also 17hrs!!! Gah!

What might be up next

The Babysitters Guide was sooooo cute! I do hope they make another one. I am said Tom Felton won be in it again since I loved him as the bad guy! He was so good. The MC was so cute.

Our weather is getting perfect for me but it’s a little on the damp/dewy side so I can’t wait for it to dry out and just be chilly!

I hope you have a great week, Stormi! Happy Reading! xx

  2. Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms

Lots of nice-looking books here, Stormi! I hope you’ll enjoy your new additions.
I am actually happy the weather is cooling down, we’re just starting to get all the colors on the trees, and I love it 🙂
Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy 🙂

    • Stormi

I know a lot of people are happy for colder weather but my house is cold and drafty in the winter so I don’t like it…lol.

      • Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy

I’m dreaming of temps in the 60s (we’re still having a heat wave) but I know you hate cold weather, sorry🙁 I will be reading These Violent Delights but probably not until next month. Hope you have a good week!

        • Stormi

Would gladly trade temps with you! My hands are so cold it’s hard to type this…ugh. I am interested in what you think of These Violent Delights so can’t wait till you get to it!

Yeah as much as I love fall the cooldown is not my favorite. I mean a little haha but not as cold as it’s gonna get. 🙂 And your books look fun. I’m running out of time to read some spookier stuff in October, so I need to get busy.

  4. Shelleyrae @ Book’d Out

I’ve heard good things about The Devil and the Dark Water so it might be worth persevering with.
We are hovering around the upper 70’s at the moment so it’s quite nice, it will be heating up soon though.

Wishing you a great reading week

I am going to keep going with The Devil and the Dark Water to see how it turns out, but it’s not an audio that has sucked me in yet. 70’s are great I wish it was 70 here today’s high might not even reach 70 and it’s misty…just nasty. 🙁

  6. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

I didn’t know you had started the Turton book. Was it on your TBR? I have a copy of it but don’t know when I’ll get to it. MG books should not have a cliffhanger! Our weather sounds a lot like yours right now.

    • Stormi

No, Turton’s book wasn’t on my TBR but I got an audio for review so thought I should try it…lol.

I am not a fan of cold and not super excited that winter is coming. I’m not sure how the weather will be different here compared to what we are used to. It’s not that far north but the proximity to the river seems to make everything weird. I’m feeling a bit flat reading-wise and need to dig through my books to see if I can find something I feel excited about reading. Enjoy your books!
