The Week In Review #321

October 11, 2020 Misc. 21

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading? Β If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Not a lot happened this week. I do think I forgot to tell you guys last week that my test results with my blood came back okay. I am still a healthy fat person! πŸ™‚ He thinks I might be going through menopause early since I am only 45 which could explain my very moody behavior…lol. He said we would see how the rest of the year goes and do another test then.

I am loving the weather we have been having! It’s been in the 80’s so nice! πŸ™‚ Nice will it last anyway…lol. One of the reasons I hate cold weather season is happening. The wood has arrived we got 5 ricks and now I have to stack it at least some of it on the porch and in the house and my body is getting to old for that and my back hurts. πŸ™ #countrylivingsuckssometimes

I watched Enola Holmes and I liked it but why do they have to mess with things. They aged her and the boy just so they could add a romance element. It is a mystery series for middle grade to young teens we didn’t need romance in it. πŸ™ In the book she is 14 and the boy was 12. Still a decent movie but I think it should have been a series…lol. Don’t worry I have gripes for the Babysitters Guide to Monster Hunting movie coming out on the 15th just from the trailer…lol. πŸ™‚ Also watched Theater of Blood with Vincent Price and I must say that was not his best work…lol.

Enough rambling! Have a great week and happy reading!

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

Got a book from my Secret Stylist (like secret Santa…lol). I am on a team called Team Nailing It and there are like 100 or more of us Stylist in it. In July they started the Secret Stylist basically for Christmas in July and it stuck so we do it every month. We encourage our person and send them something from their wishlist. I am super excited for mine!!!!

I have been wanting this since it came out! I had the eARC of this when it came out but this is so much cooler!

Books read last week

Β  Β Β

Look at me go and only two audiobooks…lol. It really helped most of these were short. πŸ™‚ I read a lot but had some duds.

  • Her Final Prayer – So I was almost finished with this one last week and I finished it up on Sunday. My review is already up and I really enjoyed it.
  • The Easton Falls Massacre: Bigfoot’s Revenge – My quest to find an awesome bigfoot book is still going because this was kind of a dud. πŸ™ It was a novella so I was expecting quick action and yeah the actually bigfoots again didn’t come into play until the end. Someone please right me a good Bigfoot book!!!!!
  • Vampire Blood – This one was so so, it’s not that it was bad per say but it wasn’t extremely interesting either. Sort of middle of the road with what I felt was a very fast ending that sort of wrapped up quickly. It’s almost like they knew exactly how to slay vampires and were good shots. Meh.
  • Mary – I think if this is going to be a series it has potential to be decent but this first graphic novel was filled with a lot of nothing.
  • Beast and Geeks – Since I relistened to Babysitters Guide to Monster Hunting the previous week I decided to jump on to the second one and it was just as fun! 6 hours and 34 minutes at 2x speed.
  • The Secret Book and Scone Society – So this isn’t a favorite of mine from Ellery Adams that much I can say. It’s the first in the series so jury is still out but I think I lost some of my enjoyment because I tried the Booktrack version and it played MUSIC through the whole entire book and that was so annoying! Don’t ever get booktrack! 8 hours and 31 minutes at 1.75x (And to be honest I have been listening to this one off and on for a few weeks cause the music was annoying)

Currently reading

  • Sing Like No One’s Listening – I am close to finishing and wanted to be finished by yesterday but it didn’t happen so should finish tonight I hope! It’s not bad for a YA contemporary about a music/dance school and all the drama and over the top flamboyant characters, the mean girls and the hottie, yep there is romance.
  • These Violent Delights – This might be sitting on my currently reading for a bit it’s over 400 pages and kind of slow going and full of politics which is a bit boring. I am only about 75 pages into it and mostly reading it before bed unless it picks up and I run with it…lol.
  • The Nesting – Just started this one yesterday so only like 3% in and I already hate the MC and Barb isn’t helping by telling me she don’t get much better! *cries* πŸ™‚ She did say the story gets better so fingers crossed!
  • Mission to Monster Island – The latest in the series (came out last year so this could be a trilogy and it’s done or this year knocked out a new one like it did a lot of series) and either way it is a lot of fun! I am about halfway through listening to it.

What might be up next

Color Street

I am in the middle of working on a party for next week. Things with Color Street could be better but I am getting at least one party a month though wishing for at least two. Those Halloween nails I showed off a couple weeks ago are pretty much sold out, only two kind left and that was after a restock! People love their Halloween nails…lol.

Β Β

Bloody Gorgeous on the nails. Then I tried this new combo of putting Seattle Royale on top of Bloody Gorgeous for what we call pumpkin spice. It looks more orange in the sunlight. I like it but I think I like just straight up Bloody Gorgeous better…lol.

How was your week? What did you get?

The weather has been very nice here, kind of chilly but still a little warm…still a little too warm for me but it’s nice in the morning.

I didn’t read the book but I thought Enola was cute. I would have also liked to see it as a series instead of a movie. I also didn’t read Monster Hunting so I am looking forward to watching that.

I have to do my nails this week with my spooky ones I got. πŸ™‚

I hope you have a great week, Stormi! Happy Reading! xx

    • Stormi

Yes, I know you would prefer that cooler weather…lol. We have a few more nice days then it dips back into the 60’s as a high which means cold nights. πŸ™

I am putting spooky ones one this week too!! πŸ™‚ I think the bat ones.

    • Stormi

Yeah, still need to do a review too…I hate writing them when I don’t like a book to much especially when the author gives it to me…lol. Paperbacks from Hell is awesome if you like learning about 70’s and 80’s horror books. πŸ™‚

  2. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Well, glad there was a semi-normal answer to your health scare. I mean, it’s not fun, but hopefully that’s all it is! Yeah, I wasn’t enjoying this week myself with the 80s weather. We’re definitely polar opposites in that! Lol. We had to turn the air back on in the house, so it’s unpleasant!

Nice new read! That is a new to me one. Yay for keeper copies that you love!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

Yeah we are opposite with weather so I am glad you are up on the top half of Missouri so you can enjoy the colder weather more when it gets here…lol.

  3. Greg

Glad your test results came back well! And haha yeah getting older is no fun. πŸ™‚ I wanted to thank you, by the way, for your nice comment on my blog, and for the prayers re: Covid. I’m convinced prayers have had a lot to do with me not having it so bad…

I haven’t seen a Vincent Price in AGES.

    • Stormi

Thanks, I know getting older kind of sucks…lol.

I haven’t seen a lot of Vincent Price, but I can say that was not a great one. House on Haunted Hill is still my favorite of his so far…lol.

  4. Carole @ Carole's Random Life in Books

I am enjoying the cooler temps. I know that cold will be here before you know it though. It has been ages since I actually watched something but I do think Enola Holmes looked good – too bad they add romance though. I hope you have a great week!

    • Stormi

I like cooler but just not cold mornings, don’t want to get out of bed…lol. Or the getting wood in when it’s colder…blah. Our house is very drafty so I am always cold during the cold months. πŸ™

It’s not a lot of romance, mainly they looked at each other and things but you could tell it was headed that way…lol.

  5. Katherine

I hate when they change things just to add a romance or an opinion that the story doesn’t need. So glad all your test results came back back the way you want them! I’m always teetering on the edge of high blood pressure thanks to genetics but haven’t quite gone over the edge yet. I need to read more Ellery Adams but I don’t think I’ll start with that one. Hope you have a great week.

    • Stormi

I know, it was just so not needed. It was mostly them making eyes at each other at times…lol.

I suggest you try the Supper Club Mysteries by Ellery Adams, I think you might like them. The first one is called Carbs and Cadavers and is also under the name J.B. Stanley.

    • Stormi

They did leave it a bit open for at least another movie which is why I thought it would be best as a series.

  6. Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer

Eww.. i had no idea in the book she was 14 and he 12. I did enjoy it and hope we see more. Glad you results were good, you can get hormone levels tested to see if you are pre or menopausal. My Mom slipped through unscathed, I turned 54 this year still haven’t begun. You need to find someone who will load the wood on the porch and do the odd chores that require more than you can do. Hugs.

    • Stormi

Yeah the books were a lot different. The boy was a bit I think I will probably doing the hormone test sometime in my future.

  7. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

The weather has been nice here — in the 60s and low 70s, mostly. It’s rainy today, though. I’m glad your test results came out well. Sorry you were disappointed in Enola Holmes. It’s annoying when they age up the characters. (Percy Jackson *cough*) But I haven’t read the books yet, and I’m looking forward to the movie. Have a great week, and enjoy your next books!

    • Stormi

Yes, so annoying with the do that to characters! Hope you enjoy the movie when you get time to watch it!
