The Week In Review #148

July 8, 2017 Memes 27

BMR,OHMy (1)The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme’s you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Not much to talk about this week. I am glad the 4th is over as I am not a firework fan because it scares some of my dogs and makes the others bark. UGH. It’s getting warm here though we did have a couple of heavy rains, but it’s just making it humid and I hate that.  This coming week is suppose to be really hot. I like summer but I don’t like really hot.  Well, that’s about it on to the bookish stuff! 🙂

What you might have missed on my blog

Books I have added

Netgalley

Okay, I can’t believe that I just put up a Halloween and Christmas cozy on my blog at the same time…lol.

  • Twelve Slays of Christmas – First in the Christmas Tree Farm Mysteries. It sounds really cute!
  • Death Overdue – First book in the Haunted Library Mysteries. How could I pass up a book with books in it. 🙂

First to Read

  • The Driver – Army Special Forces guy who owns a limo company and is asked to be the driver for a celebrity skateboard mogul and gets more than he bargained for.

Audiobook from narrator

  • A Ton of Gold – A 178 year-old folktale causes murder, kidnapping, and arson in 2012 Texas. Sounds interesting to me. 🙂

Books Bought

  • Optical Delusions in Deadwood – Second book in this series. I have book 1&3 so now I have the second one so I need to get started on this series as I heard it’s really fun. 🙂

Freebies

  • Pirate’s Vengeance – A YA pirate series, sounds interesting to me.
  • Skin and Bones – YA paranormal romance with a paranormal investigation team. Sounds interesting.

Books read last week

  • Miss Ellicott’s School for the Magically Minded – it was okay, just didn’t care for the MC but did like the ending.
  • Monsters Unleashed -Cute book about bullying and friendships. Two boys make monsters out based on the bullies in school and then they come to life so they have to work with the bullies to defeat them.
  • Prawn of the Dead – Hilarious cozy mystery. I mean it has zombie apocalypse conspirators in it what is not to love. 🙂
  • Gator’s Challenge – Last in the Bitten Point books and just as good at the rest. It was a second chance romance.
  • Of Books and Bagpipes – 2nd book in the Scottish Bookshop mysteries and just as good as the first one! The narrator does is so good!

I’m loving so many of your books this week! I see you got Skin And Bones. And I love the Deadwood series. Plan on sharing my reviews all in one post in August.
It’s a steam bath here too, Stormi. I wish we lived closer so you could come hang at the pool. My dog, Quigley doesn’t mind fireworks. The neighbors are always shooting at snakes and the police have a tactical gun range down the road. He knows the difference between thunder and guns though. The winds bother him the most. Try to stay cool:)

Can’t wait to see your review of that series. 🙂 I wish I lived closer to cause I want in that pool…lol.

  2. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Oddly I don’t think we had as much fireworks going on in our neighborhood. Ours usually aren’t a fan. They’ll bark at the fireworks noise more than anything.

Nice new reads! Totally new to me ones! Hope you enjoy them once you get to read them!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

Dry heat I can handle but we always have the nasty humidity to go with it.

    • Stormi

Yes, they are fine. My outside dogs hate any loud noise when it thunders, or someone shoots a gun so they are always wanting inside. One thinks he is a big baby and should sit on my lap but he is a great dane mix and to big…lol.

Yeah the humidity’s not my thing either. It’s going to be 80’s here I guess. We did have storms roll through and lost power for a while, trees were down- quite the mess. And I hear you on the fireworks- it can be rough on the dogs, especially when people shoot them off for days both before and after the 4th!

We had a freak 30 minute down pour Friday that wasn’t in the forecast and it even hailed and we are all like what the heck…lol. The weather is really strange this year.

It’s been really humid here too and like you, I don’t like hot. Some idiots around the block were letting off something last night (fireworks I’m assuming) but T slept through them – thank God. I think I was approved for the Christmas Cozy as well – I’ll have to check.

Between the fireworks and people shooting guns my outside dogs are always wanting in. 🙁 Tonight Molly about pushed me over trying to get in the door cause someone was shooting a gun. Sighs. Drives me crazy, one of the downsides of living in the country.

    • Stormi

I live in the country too and that is one of the reasons we have lots of firework noise as there is no ordinance to stop them. 🙁

  5. Kathy @ My Nook, Books & More

I hate the fireworks and was surprised our neighbors weren’t as bad this year. Maybe they had to work the next day lol. But it is hard on the animals so I’m glad this holiday is over. I have Prawn of the Dead and now I can’t wait to listen to it!! I hope you have a great week!

My dogs bark at the fireworks too. And of course, there are people that shoot them off for the whole month of July. Its so irritating!
Its been pretty hot here as well and I hate it. Ugh! Oh well. What can you do?
    Have a great week!

  7. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

The humidity here is killing me! We were outside a lot this past weekend and there were a few times where I just couldn’t take it anymore! Luckily my dog doesn’t really mind fireworks but I know a number of people whose pets really struggle with them. I can see how it would shape your feeling about them if you’re having to deal with scared and/or barking dogs all night! I went back and forth on the Christmas tree farm cozy. It looks so cute but I have so many! I will wait for your review. Have a great week!

I am not a fan of fireworks here, but as I don’t like in the US we don’t celebrate the 4th. Hot and humid is the worst. Luckily it has cooled down here a bit. I also got Death Overdue and am very tempted to request the Christmas one as well. Have a great week!
