Friday Meme’s ~ Game of Shadows

February 17, 2017 Memes 14

BMR,Friday's MemeSince there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee.

What was the first book that moved you? Scared you, made you cry or disturbed you?

First book that scared me would be Pet Semetary cause I read it when I was about 12…lol. It’s not my favorite Stephen King book but it’s the one I will always remember cause it was my first one.

I try my best not to pick books I think will make me cry and I can’t remember the first one but I do know that then ending of To Scotland with Love by Patience Griffin made me tear up a bit.

I know I have been disturbed by a book or two but off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything…lol. The book I am listening to right now is kind of disturbing and creepy. It’s The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn. 🙂

book beginnings memeBook Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.

Ethan Makkai thought that seeing ghosts was the worst of his problems. Between his ethereal gift and life with a single mother hell-bent on watching his every move, he feels imprisoned. When Ethan sees a chance to escape, to leave the house by himself for the first time in his life, he seizes it, unaware that this first taste of freedom will cost him everything.

Ethan is thrown into a strange and eerie world, like nothing he’s ever seen. He’s assaulted by dive-bombing birds and rescued by a stranger who claims to be his bodyguard. His apartment is trashed, and his mother is kidnapped to a place Ethan never knew existed—a hidden continent called Tara.

Traveling to Tara in search of his mother, Ethan discovers that everything he knows about his life is a lie. His mother is royalty. His father is not dead. His destiny is likely to get him killed.

Confronted by a vicious sorcerer determined to destroy the Makkai family, Ethan must garner strength from his gift and embrace his destiny if he’s going to save his mother and all the people of Tara, including the beautiful girl he’s fallen for.

I just started this one and I am on chapter three which is only about 5% in so don’t have a firm opinion yet, I think it’s just about the get interesting…I hope. 🙂

“Ethan Makkai, freedom is a state of mind.” Ethan shook his head at his mother’s canned response. It was the same thing she said every time he told her it was time to cut the parental leash. He dropped his backpack next to the kitchen table and sat down with a loud huff. “Wrong. Freedom is the state of not being imprisoned.”

Poor Ethan, his mom won’t let him out alone because it’s not safe but she won’t tell him why, but he is going to soon find out. It would be embarrassing to have your mom walk you to school when your 14…lol.Friday 56

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday  Teaser but  you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.

“Move, unless you’d like to join Cooper.”

“You said your laws forbid hurting children,” Lily exclaimed, trying to push Maul off Ethan, but the Faoladh didn’t budge.

“I said we don’t kill children,” Maul corrected. “But in this one’s case, I might be willing to make an exception.”

Not this far in so no clue what is going on but that Maul character doesn’t sound nice. 🙂

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.

Can you read and watch TV or listen to the radio at the same time?

Yes, I do it all the time. I even blog and listen to audiobooks at the same time. 🙂 I can’t handle the quiet, I have to have some sort of background noise or I get antsy.

Like you, I can’t really handle the quiet either. We have a fan running in our bedroom at night year round – even if it’s pointed to the wall. I am more than able to read and watch TV at the same time unless it’s a show I want to give my full attention. The last book that really made me cry probably had to be The Art of Racing in the Rain. I’m planning a reread sometime this year so we’ll see how it goes the second time around.

Sounds intriguing – I’ve never heard of this one or its author before. Hope you enjoy it. Can’t remember the first book that really scared me. Possibly The Legend of Sleepy Hollow – I was very freaked out by the idea of someone riding around without a head. Still am, actually! Thanks for sharing, and happy reading!

I saw the movie Pet Semetary when I was about 8 and I had nightmares for years! I probably didn’t watch another scary movie until I was in high school! I’m jealous that you can blog and listen to audio books at the same time! I can do housework and stuff while listening to audio books but if I try to blog I end up tuning out my audio book. I do have to have background noise though.

I cried when I read Love Story back 1970? Not sure of the year. I am sure there’s lots of others. Scared me? The Shining, Salem’s Lot, and Pet Semetary scared me really bad.
The only time I don’t run a fan in the bedroom is deep dark winter and that’s because the heat in there doesn’t work great. Have to have the noise otherwise. But I absolutely can’t read and watch TV at the same time 🙂
