BMR,Friday's MemeSince there are a few Friday Meme’s that I want to participate in I have decided to post them all in one post.

book beginnings memeBook Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Take the first sentence of your current read and post it.

a Disguise to die for

Someone is dressed to kill in the debut Costume Shop Mystery from the national bestselling author of the Material Witness mysteries.

No sooner does former magician’s assistant Margo Tamblyn return home to Proper City, Nevada, to run Disguise DeLimit, the family-owned costume shop, than she gets her first big order. Wealthy nuisance Blitz Manners needs forty costumes for a detective-themed birthday bash. As for Blitz himself, his Sherlock Holmes is to-die-for—literally—when, in the middle of the festivities, Margo’s friend and party planner Ebony Welles is caught brandishing a bloody carving knife over a very dead Blitz.

For Margo, clearing Ebony’s name is anything but elementary, especially after Ebony flees town. Now Margo is left to play real-life detective in a town full of masked motives, cloaked secrets, and veiled vendettas. But as she soon learns, even a killer disguise can’t hide a murderer in plain sight for long.

I just reviewed this one a few days ago and I really liked it so I thought I would feature it here. 🙂

“Give Me the knife,” demanded the cranky man in the wheelchair.

“I don’t think so,” I said.

“I’m not playing, Margo. Give me the knife.”

“Why? I already told you I could do it. It’s just going to take longer than I thought.”

“That’s because you can’t climb the ladder in those silly boots.”

“Why are you so worried about my go-go books? You bought them for me. Besides, you’re the one wearing two different shoes.”

It was with this opening that I knew I was going to enjoy this cozy mystery. 🙂

Friday 56

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda @ Freda’s Voice. It’s like Tuesday  Teaser but  you have a specific place in your read that you have to turn in your read (page 56 or 56%) to get your teaser.

I regretted not trying to match the square of torn fabric from Ebony’s car with the pants when I had them all in from of me. I pulled the fabric from my fringed pouch and looked at it. It was a nondescript plaid in shades of khaki, plum, navy blue, and brown, the same shades of her pants.

Not to long before this part Ebony’s car had be vandalized and Margo had found a piece a fabric. Someone tried to get her to buy a costume and Margo had noticed a rip on it.

book blogger hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  Each week we are asked a question to answer so it reminds me a bit of FF and so I thought it made a good fit to my other Friday Memes.

Are you able to read in the car?

If I am not driving, yes. 🙂 Actually I am different that a lot of people, I can some times get car sick on long tricks if I don’t occupy myself, so reading helps me not get sick. I know a lot of people say reading in a car makes them sick but it’s the opposite for me.

My father has always got on to me for not paying attention cause I am reading. He says I will never remember how to get somewhere cause I have my nose in a book…lol.

It was the beginning of this cozy that really drew me in so I couldn’t help but put that conversation up there. 🙂

  1. I don’t usually read cozy mysteries, but I might make an exception for this one, as it has something to do with Sherlock Holmes, my favorite detective! The plot sure looks intriguing, too!

Your dad’s comment sounds just like something my own dad would have said. I, too, had my nose in a book all the time when I was a kid. (And I still do, as much as possible, lol.)

Happy Reading, and Happy Weekend!! 🙂

  2. Wow you are completely opposite from most people! That’s great!

I am similar to most where I almost always get car sick from reading…you know what, I actually almost get car sick anyway lol Reading just does not help my cause!

    Have a great weekend 🙂
