Olivia Limoges and the Bayside Book Writers are excited about Oyster Bay's newest resident: bestselling novelist Nick Plumley, who's come to work on his next book. But when Olivia stops by Plumley's rental she finds that he's been strangled to death. Her instincts tell her that something from the past came back to haunt him, but she never expects that the investigation could spell doom for one of her dearest friends...
What I thought of this book.
Olivia is still reeling from the invents from the last book and she has pushed the police chief away in the process. She is adjusting to things and opening a new restaurant. She is also still working on her novel along with the others at her book writing club.
There is a new man in town and he is an author, this as some from the book club excited. Olivia is not so excited because he seems to want the house that Harrison wants and she does what she can to make sure Harrison gets it first. That doesn’t stop the author from taking an interest in the home and because of that Harrison.
Then they find a priceless painting and the author ends up dead. Who would have wanted to kill the author? The more Olivia and her book club look into things the more they find out that he has been hiding a great deal. There are a few people who might want him dead.
A bit shocked at who the killer as much as Olivia was, but totally understand why that person did it as well.
I am starting to like Olivia more than in the first book. She is a character that you really just have to warm up to because she comes off a bit rude. She is wealthy and a little fancy and it comes out in her personality a bit. I really wondered at times why the chief even likes, but I am starting to like her more now as well. Sometimes you just got to see under those layers. 🙂
I love all the secondary characters from the chief to the book writing clubbers. I am invested in wanting to know more about each of them and feel their ups and downs.
I enjoyed The Last Word, but I have never in my life been so sad over a cozy mystery! The ending was just so sad and it’s hard to tell you why without giving away things. Other than that it was another good story in the Books by the Bay series.
I love Karen Whites narration and she does a great job with this series.
