Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.
Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name. Plus, many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.
So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. But it turns out that this is not an isolated incident. Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—and fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price…
Both Barb and I are having a lot of fun reading the Kate Daniels series and so even though we had to other buddy reads we managed to squeeze this one in as well! After checking out mine go over and see what she thought!
Here is what I thought
In Magic Slays Kate is working in her own business after Curran set her up one as it will both be good for her and the pack. The only problem is that her ex-boss is blaming everything that happened in book #4 on her and so she isn’t getting any business. When the phone does ring it’s Ghastek needing her to rein in a vampire that got away from one of his necromancers and things get real interesting with that.
Then Andrea comes back and tell’s Kate where she has been, etc. and she offers her a job as it seems like this one vampire incident isn’t the only one and Kate must figure things out. You know with Kate Daniels it can never be an easy job so when she gets one it’s a doozy.
So as always I really love the characters in these novels. I really like the relationship that has formed between Andrea and Kate and Kate and Julie. Kate has went from being a loner to having a family whether it was what she wanted or not. Of course I love Kate and Curren, that just goes without saying…lol.
One of the things I love about this series is the action and boy this one has some action! I will admit that when listening to these that sometimes those throwdown battle scenes at the end can get pretty chaotic and hard to keep track of but I love them just the same. In this book things get a little emotional when Kate finds out some things about herself and when something happens to somebody. I am really curious to find out what is going to happen next and since Barb said someone told her we should read 5.5 before jumping into 6 we will be reading Gunmetal Magic next! 🙂
The Narrator
Renee Raudman does a fantastic job with this as she always does!!

I think we are so fortunate this series hasn’t slowed down a bit and that we are still excited to pick up the next one each month! Go Grendel!

I was just thinking this series seems very consistent and each book is just as good as the last😁

I’m really excited to see how much you’re enjoying Ilona Andrews on audio. I haven’t read anything by them but have bought a few on Audible and am really looking forward to listening to them.
