The town of Jewel Bay, Montana—known as a Food Lovers' Village—is obsessed with homegrown and homemade Montana fare. So when Erin Murphy takes over her family’s century-old general store, she turns it into a boutique market filled with local delicacies. But Erin’s freshly booming business might go rotten when a former employee turns up dead…
Murphy’s Mercantile, known as the Merc, has been a staple in Jewel Bay for over a hundred years. To celebrate their recent makeover as a gourmet food market, Erin has organized a town festival, Festa di Pasta, featuring the culinary goods of Jewel Bay’s finest—including her mother Fresca’s delicious Italian specialties.
But Erin’s sweet success is soured when the shop’s former manager, Claudette, is found dead behind the Merc on the Festa’s opening night. With rival chef James Angelo stirring up rumors that Fresca’s sauce recipes were stolen from Claudette, Erin’s mother is under close scrutiny. Now Erin will have to hunt down some new suspects, or both her family and her store might wind up in hot water…

Here is what I thought

Erin has taken over her mom’s shop though it seems at times her mom still thinks she is in charge which drives Erin crazy at times. Erin is turning it into more of a boutique market which is totally different than how her mom use to run things. Jewel Bay is a known as the Food Lover’s Village and Erin really wants to use fresh local Montana goods.

Things get a little bumpy for Erin when at the Fiesta de Pasta, a new event thought up by Erin to showcase the local foods and especially her mothers Fresca’s delicious Italian specialties. It all sort of falls apart after Erin finds the shop’s former manager, Claudette dead. Suspicions quickly form when rumors are started that Fresca stole Claudette’s recipes.  The policewoman on the case was friends with Erin in high school but she wasn’t sure about her when she started snooping around her mom as Erin only thought it seemed like she had her mom as a suspect. Erin will have to figure out who killed Claudette before things come crashing down on her mother.

I thought this was a good start to a new series and I always love a foodie theme. I like Erin and I can’t wait to get to know her and everyone else in Jewel Bay. It has a good mystery and I had my suspicions at times but wasn’t really sure exactly who it was but then I was like I should have known that…lol.

If you enjoy foodie themed cozies and the cozies that are not real silly then you will enjoy this series. I love this authors other series so I knew I would like this one too! 🙂

I really enjoyed a recent book in this series (I think raspberry jam was involved in the title but can’t be sure) and I’ve been wanting to go back and read the first one as there was some mentions of drama. I’m glad you enjoyed this one! Have you read the Spice Shop series by her? I have the first one but haven’t gotten to it yet.
