Piper Griffiths wants one thing in life: To become a Consul, a keeper of the peace between humans and daemons. There are precisely three obstacles in her way.
The first is Lyre. Incubus. Hotter than hell and with a wicked streak to match. His greatest mission in life is to get Piper — plus every other female in a ten mile radius — into bed, and when not actively working on that, he’s annoying the crap out of her.
The second is Ash. Draconian. Powerful. Dangerous. Scarier than most people's worst nightmares. He knows too much and reveals nothing. Also, disturbingly attractive — and scary. Did she mention scary?
The third is the Sahar Stone. Top secret magical weapon of mass destruction. Previously hidden in her Consulate until thieves broke in, went on a murder spree, and disappeared with the weapon.
And they left Piper to take the fall for their crimes.
Now she’s on the run, her dreams of becoming a Consul shattered and every daemon in the city gunning to kill her for something she didn’t actually steal. She’s dead on her own, but there’s no one she can trust to help her—no one except two entirely untrustworthy daemons.
...See problems one and two.

What I thought of this book.

All Piper wanted to be in a Consul. She has to prove herself more than others because she has no magic. She keeps the peace between humans and daemons or at least she tries.

Then the Sahar stone is stolen and everyone thinks that she did it so now she is on the run with two daemons. Lyre, is a sexy incubus who is always trying to either get Piper into bed or annoying the heck out of her. Ash is a Draconian and not only is he sexy but he is scary when you see him without his glamour.

There are some bad people who want the Sahar and they will do about anything to get it. Piper puts her trust into her two daemon friends but they might not be as trustworthy as she thought. Piper learns a lot about who she is along the way and what her father had been protecting her from.

Chase the Dark was chalked full of a lot of kick butt action which I like and I really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me is there is so many people wanting the Sahar but it never really tells you exactly what it is or will do. We just know it’s powerful and everyone wants it. Maybe we will learn more in the other books.

Piper might be just human but she sure could kick some daemon butt though still flawed I liked her. She seems to have a bit of a weakness for Incubus, but then I don’t think that is all her fault. I really haven’t made up my mind if I like Lyre or Ash more they are both pretty sexy and each have their own agendas.

If you like urban fantasy/paranormal read then you might find this one interesting. I have the next two books so I am ready to find out what happens next. 🙂

The Narrator:

I have listened to this narrator before and she is not bad but my only problem was that she sounded really nasally and it was kind of distracting.

I think I’m going to wait for your reviews on the next books before I decide on this series, Stormi. When I read UF, I want the world-building to make sense to me, and that means it has to be pretty solid!
I’m glad you enjoyed this, even if it wasn’t perfect 🙂
